Front Yards

Simple, vibrant and, most of all, inviting.

Front yard landscaping is a challenge for many homeowners, who are never quite sure what to do with the space.

Taz designs custom, creative front yards that make the most of their surroundings while accentuating the home. The key is always the same: keep it simple, vibrant and, most importantly, inviting.

Key services across all three projects:

  • Softscaping
  • Landscape Features
  • Landscape Lighting
  • Paving Stones
Arbour Lake, NW Calgary

A plain front lawn, turned into a neighbourly gathering spot.

The brief

The owners wanted a place out front to sit and welcome people visiting from the neighbourhood.

Taz's solution

Taz proposed a more natural, rustic space: natural stepping stones lead to the meeting place, surrounded by a rock garden that makes the walk there as appealing as the seat itself.

  • Natural stepping stones
  • Rock garden
  • Front seating area
  • Softscaping

Capitol Hill, NW Calgary

A black-and-white home, matched with a clean, modern front yard.

The brief

The owners wanted something simple and clean.

Taz's solution

Taz connected the landscape to the home's black and white exterior with rundle rock and limestone rock, intertwining the two around a new paving stone walkway to the front door.

  • Paving stone walkway
  • Rundle rock
  • Limestone rock
  • Softscaping

Montgomery, NW Calgary

A steep front slope, shaped with a wing wall and lit up after dark.

The brief

A steep slope left this front yard with no structure to work with.

Taz's solution

Taz added a wing retaining wall to bring hardscaping to the front and accentuate the tree behind it. Sweeping curves around the straight concrete steps add contrast, ground cover was chosen to match the home, and landscape lighting gives the yard a beautiful pop at night.

  • Wing retaining wall
  • Curved borders
  • Ground cover
  • Landscape lighting
